Not Much Time, But Lots of Friends…

We have less than a week to go and are closely monitoring this weird swine flu outbreak to make sure that it won’t affect any travel we have planned. We aren’t heading towards Mexico but I am mildly concerned that other countries won’t let US citizens in since the EU is already warning their citizens to not take leisure travel to the States, but I think that’s a bit high-strung of a stance for Europe to take.

So anyways, we finished work last Wednesday and it feels fab to not have to ask people whether they sweet or unsweet iced tea anymore. We had a wonderful last full weekend in Key West that involved a picnic at Ft. Zach where we grilled veg dogs and corn on the cob with our work friends, a gorgeous dinner at Martin’s, conch fritters, a champagne brunch, drag queen bingo, a pizza party and best of all, our going away party with all of our work friends at one of our favorite dive bars, Don’s Place.

Below are some pictures from our shindig:

We were so happy to have all of our favorite friends come out and celebrate with us. We managed to keep it together, even though we “celebrated” until 4 in the morning. We will miss complaining about annoying customers with everyone, laughing at silly jokes, and the after work drinks we all consumed. Thanks for coming out and for all the beers!

*Also, special thanks for Andreas for buying us beautiful matching necklaces to his with wonderful cards and for the wonderful brunch/conversation that he and Kelly treated us too.

This week has been spent organizing, packing and generally procrastinating with sporadic outings with our best friend, Gena, whom is visiting for a whole month, much to our absolute delight. We have packed up our whole closet in giant rubbermaid bins to put in my mom’s storage, began putting aside all of the things we will carry on our backs for a year and tried not to cry when hugging my mom.

Melissa comes from Mexico tomorrow afternoon and for the first time since Christmas, I will have nearly all of my best friends back home(minus Caitlin, who I was lucky to see a few weeks ago). My brother is also coming back with my niece on Thursday night so this should be a whirlwind last few days on this little island.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention my mom got me a new digital camera for going away! A beauty of a new Olympus that is waterproof and shockproof and takes videos underwater. So perhaps, our blog will also be a video blog too! I can’t wait to try it in Australia and Thailand….
