too bad Noah’s ark is on the other side of Turkey…

By: Ellie

We left Istanbul out of the major Ataturk Airport and were surprised by how small and unorganized it was for catering to a city of over 20 million. They don’t call you to your gate until about five minutes before departure and of course we got there about 3 hours before our flight. While we were sitting in the only cafe open at 7am, we witnessed the ceiling starting to leak some sort of yellowish water from an air vent on to the tile floor. Some people in the waiting area moved away, but no one seemed to care or want to do anything about it.  It started to get harder, until it sounded like a steady rainfall and was flooding the area. Some maintenance crew decided to solve the problem by mopping it up. They would push the yellow “water” with a mop from one side of the floor to the other, meanwhile more came pouring out of the ceiling. When that was failing, some of them started throwing small buckets under the cascade. We didn’t stick around to see what happened, but it had been going on for about 20 minutes when we left. Hopefully Ataturk Airport is not underwater now…

Here is a small clip of the chaos.
