Yellow sunshine
In Kreuzberg, Yellow Sunshine is a vegetarian fast food restaurant and was a welcome respite after Turkey. They have over 40 different combinations of fake meat sandwiches such as a Hawaiian burger (Ellie’s favorite) which is a veggie burger with fake bacon and pineapple. They aldo have fake chicken and fish sandwiches along with fries and salads. The food is fast, delicious and the choice is wonderful.

Barbie Deinhoff’s
One of our favorite bars in Kreuzberg which was right around the corner from our apartment. It’s an alternative bar that was started by a drag queen. We got the chance to go on Friday night and they had awesome DJ’s, good beer and it was packed. The people were stunning to look at and very well-dressed. It’s quirky and my favorite place.
Luzia
Luzia is a bar we found last time on Oranienstrasse. We fell in love with it because of its vintage feel and this cool graffiti on the wall behind the bar. Last year there was a loft but they closed it off and made it into a secret room in the wall. This bar is always full of girls in vintage cocktail dresses and scruffy boys with big glasses. They often play 50’s style classics and we got lucky enough to get the gigantic old sofa in the window to people watch. This bar is full even in the afternoons on the weekends.
Café Morgenrot
Café Morgenrot is in Prenzlauerberg. It is the site of a former squat and has a café at the bottom. On Sunday, the place is packed due to their popular “Pay what you wish” cold vegan brunch. They serve all sorts of vegan dips, jams and breads as well as vegan cheeses and the most delicious tofo scramble I have ever had. They also make the most delicious chai latte I have ever had and all for an honest donation between 4 -8 euros. I like the anti-classist attitude here. They believe that everyone should have the option to have a brunch regardless of what their income is and I think more places should do this. If we lived in Berlin, we’d both be here A LOT.
Flea market at Mauerpark
After our Sunday brunch, we headed to Mauerpark in Prenzlauer Berg to see the famous Sunday FleaMarket. It’s a massive market that sells everything you could ever need or want, from new home-sewn dresses and self-printed t-shirts to used forks and flashlights.
Kel's new aquisition
Kelly found a beautiful necklace and was able to bargain with the seller down to a price even a backpacker couldn’t turn down. There are rows and rows of stalls and the whole market only covers a corner of the vast green park.
Fete de la Musique
Fete De La Musique is a music festival that started in France but now over 150 concerts take place around the world on June 21st, the summer solstice. The point of Fete De La Musique is to give free music to people and also to have music appear in places that you can’t normally find it. So musicians appeared all over Berlin in front of coffeeshops, on streets, in bars and in gigantic open-air parks.

We got the chance to enjoy Fete De La Musique in Mauerpark after the flea market. There were tons of stages with a bunch of local acts of every genre. There were even hidden techno acts in the forest of Mauerpark.
Loads of families were there and the kids were all dancing around so cute. Everyone set on the gigantic hill in Mauerpark, drinking beer and enjoying the longest day of the year. It was one of the best times we had in Berlin.
Second hand Stores of Prenzlauer Berg
One of the great things about the neighborhood of Prenzlauer Berg is the second hand shopping. There are tons of vintage stores. You can find funky hats and accessories and gorgeous dresses and shoes from any era. The prices were a little on the expensive side for our budget, which is probably for the better, because we can barely carry the clothes in our backpacks.
